Guide to Essential Oils

Last week, we introduced you to Aromatherapy, how scent memory works, and how you can use essential oils to help improve your life.

This week we’re back with our guide to the top 70 Essential Oils and how you can harness their potent plant powers potential physical and emotional health benefits.

That’s right, we scoured the literature to gather a comprehensive list of essential oils to suit all your needs.

Now that you’ve got the low-down on how you can use scents and essential oils to improve your mood, productivity, and more, let’s be sure you know how to stay SAFE…

Aromatherapy Safety & Precautions

Dilution/Strength

Essential Oils are pure extractions of plant-medicines, and as such require specific dosing for topical vs. inhaled applications, etc.. Be sure your essential oils come from a quality source and are diluted with a carrier oil to the strength you require. Never put essential oils directly on damaged skin.

Pregnancy & Breastfeeding

The use of essential oils while pregnant or breastfeeding can be a tricky topic, specifically in the case of topical application, but there are some guidelines to help un-muddy the waters. Check out our reference section for a link to a complete list of safety precautions for Aromatherapy use when pregnant or breastfeeding from the National Association for Holistic Aromatherapy.

Toxic/Harmful Oils

Just because it grows from the ground, doesn’t mean it’s good for you. Many plants contain toxic substances which are designed to discourage animals from eating or disturbing them. While most cases of harmful side-effects are due to ingestion of extremely high doses, it’s best to stick with the oils you know are safe for use and curated by trusted manufacturers.
